In Memory of My Dog

A few years ago my beautiful collie Faolan pass away. It broke my heart. I still miss him everyday.
For those of you who are wondering about the name Faolan - its Irish for "Little Wolf"
A fitting name for our big blue eyed collie we though. I called him Bear, he was a big teddy bear!! As I write this I am so upset because he was so sweet and kind and loving he deserved a long long beautiful life. Unfortunately Bear didn't have the best start in life and was dumped outside our house at just over a year old. We took him in and loved him for 10 great years. Sadly he gone ill and dead in his sleep with me by his side. A horrible sad moment but I was glad I was there to hold him as he passed.

Back to today, well today was beautiful - the sun was shining it wasn't too cold, the type of day he would have loved. So I spent it in the garden creating this.

It really made me feel close to him again. I am not the best artist but I tried to capture his face. This rock sits in our garden and we planted blue flowers around, the same colour as his eyes!

Clean large stone.
Slate grey base colour

I sketched it out on paper first
then traced the outline onto the stone

This is the second time I created this because the paint only lasted about 2 years before it chipped off due to bad weather. I hope to protect this one more so it lasts longer. I miss him everyday but its nice to look out into the garden and see him there.

Love Sinead x

  3. I feel so cheesy writing this but it actually brought tears to my eyes reading this.. What an absolutely beautiful dog he was! I have a deep love for collies, I want my first dog to be a collie.. When I read that you had planted blue flowers around the stone I almost cried.. It sounds like he had the most wonderful owner a dog could possibly have! I'm so sorry you lost him, but I'm sure he must have felt very loved and that is what is most important to remember when thinking about him <3 xo

  4. That is so beautiful. What kind of paper did you use to sketch that? How were you able to trace it. What a beautiful way to remember such a precious friend.

    1. Thank you, I use normal paper and then drew it at the back too and then went over the lines I created at the first. I had to draw a lot of it free hand again because it didn't show up too well but its good to have that sketch to work off.
Thanks even at the end he was so lovely, he wagged his tail at me, lay down and went to sleep. My family think that was him saying thank you. xx

  5. That is a truly amazing way to remember him. My beloved cat died this past summer and it's been so hard. I really want to do something like this to remember him. Thank you for this post. <3

  7. Sinead when I read your post I had tears in my eyes. It's always hard if you loose such a good friend....like you loose a family member. The painted stone is such a sweet idea!! (and you are very talented by the way!) I'm sure Faolan likes it!!! ;-)

  8. I lost my doggie a year ago. Even though I'm not Irish, I've always had a love for Irish culture so I named him Ronan. He too was with us for 10 years, he was more than lovely and also quite a character. There's not a day that goes by that I don't think of him and miss him... I love what you did and I love that it makes you feel closer to him, I wish I was as talented to do something like this for my doggie, but I will have him in my heart always and treasure all the great moments he gave us :)

  9. Hello!
I lost my dog over 4.5 years ago. Her name was Santia and she was the polish lowland sheepdog. She died on 17th of November, being a little bit over 7. She was killed by car- we don't know it happened, but I know that there wasn't a day when I didn't think about her, there wasn't a day when I didn't blame myself. When I found her at the side of the road, I was sitting and stroking her fury head and crying my eyes out. When I was told that she might be dead (by a neighbour) I didn't cry at first. I was screaming, my mom couldn't have calmed me down.. and then I found her... and then my mom found me... she had to drag me from her. I've never been so sad, so miserable.
I still can't get over it and I still cant look at the pictures. I visit her little grave in our garden every time Im at home.

I know how it feels. I know how heart broken someone can be. You had a beautiful dog.

    Take care xx

  10. I'm sorry that you lost your dog. I know what it's like to lose a beloved pet, but their memory stays with you forever.

The drawing is absolutely beautiful, i'm sure there are weather resistant sealers that could help the paint stay in tact and not chip off at home depot or any other paint store.

    Beautiful post and blog!

    xx, Kels
